For example: How to get into investing in the capital market - if at all? Why doesn't anyone reading this book probably work as a garbage collector? If Nike pays starvation wages to girls who work in production, is it wrong to boycott its products? 

Whelan has managed to do the seemingly impossible—write an enjoyable, understandable book about economics. "My wife and I's decision to buy an SUV affects everyone else on the road, but none of them are involved in it. I don't have to compensate all the owners of Honda Civics and other small cars for the fact that I'm slightly increasing the risk to their lives. Nor do I have to compensate asthmatic children whose condition will be worsened by the fumes I emit when I drive around town at four miles per gallon. And I've never sent a check to the people in New Orleans who might one day find their homes flooded because the carbon dioxide emissions from my car have melted the tops of the polar ice caps. But these are all real costs that come from driving a less fuel-efficient vehicle. My decision to buy a Ford Explorer creates what economists call an externality, which means that the private cost of my behavior is different from the social cost.
